Garmin hand-held innovators

Garmin Ltd. is a multinational technology company founded in 1989 by Gary Burrell and Min Kao in the United States. Since 2010, the company is legally incorporated in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

The company specializes in GPS technology for automotive, aviation, marine, outdoor, and sports activities.

Due to their development in wearable technology, they have also been competing with activity tracker and smartwatch consumer developers such as Fitbit and Apple.

To begin with, Garmin manufactured hand-held GPS devices such as the e-trex allowing walkers, hikers and geocachers to locate points in the area and track their routes.

They diversified into SAT-NAV technology using GPS to plan routes and pinpoint locations on maps allowing drivers to find their way without having to reach for the road atlas, (Even if they occasionally discovered routes they would rather not have used.).

The next area of development was Personal Trainers, (Minicomputers for runners and cyclists.) and Dog trackers.

More recently a big part of Garmin’s business has been wrist-worn Activity Trackers giving all manner of information to walkers, runners, swimmers, cyclists, paddlers, triathletes and golfers.

By their nature, all these products work hard and need regular re-charging. Should your device begin to work less efficiently or need charging more and more often working for less and less time between charges then it is probably time to replace your power cell. Left too long you could start losing data mid workout or losing complete functionality when you need it most.
